FILLSA fill is a short solo leading into a set-up or used to connect to a new section of music. Fills vary in length and need to be phrased according to the needs of the music. If you use a fill too often or you try to be too fancy, it loses meaning. If you do not use enough, the music might sound monotonous and lose energy. A fill needs to keep the feel of the piece (don't venture too far away), the tempo, and keep the basic subdivision of the selection. The possibilities for fills are endless, so experiment and come up with your own!

ACCENTSAccents are used to emphasize something in the music. Set-ups usually accompany the accents and are used to cue the musicians for the emphatic hit! Accents can occur on any beat, so it is good to practice for them. Also, practice them using various drums and cymbals. They are often set-up, so you can practice leading and leaning into them.
